Wonderful night camping

My family and I had a nice stay at the park. We were only passing through, and stayed 1 night at the park. The staff was friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean. I plan on staying a little longer next year when we come back to Wyoming.

Absolutely beautiful!

This is by far one of the most beautiful state parks I've been to. There is so much to see. You can picnic in the castle on top of the mountain and watch the boaters far below. On the other side of the same mountain you can watch eagles and hawks fly around you. The ride to this area supplies views of breathtaking scenery, wildflowers, and wildlife such as wild turkey, deer, hawks, and eagles. Do not forget your bike! There are plenty of places to ride! There is a paved road that goes all the way through the park with stunning views the entire way. There is also a small museum which is fun to see. Swimming is VERY cold, but a dip in the ice water is ok when it's really hot. The kids don't seem to mind the chill of the water at all. There are a wide variety of campsites. This campground even includes handicap TENT sites, which is unusual. The handicap RV sites are beautiful and very large. The others go from your typical campsites to fairly rustic. Another plus is that town is right around the corner from the park, so don't worry if you forget anything.

Nice area

We stayed in one of the areas that had water and power hookups. I wish they had sewer hookups as well, but the central area for RV dump was convenient, but could see it getting crowded with long waits when there are a lot of people trying to use them all at once. The weather was very windy, but that is expected with anyplace in Wyoming. Improvements could maybe be some type of wind breaks at each site that would quell that, especially since it was almost always from the same direction. The bull horn stickers were also quite prevelant at all the sites in our camping area. We were one of a group of campers, and we all thought they could do something to remove those so we didn't have to pick them out of everything. But then, it is a "wild" area and those are a naturally growing plant on the plains. You kinda have to expect it!

Greatest place on Earth!

My family has been enjoying Lake Guernsey since I was a young child. I have seen a lot of changes in the years. I remember the speed boat races up and down Sandy beach, camping bumper to bumper and going up on a last minute decision. What a great experience as a child growing up. Lots of good memories! I have my own family now and it doesn't seem the same. Now you have to schedule your camping trips to Guernsey if you want a camping space and thanks to the folks that have figured out how to cheat the reservation system, it is almost impossible. The park rangers are nice, yes, but let us have our space and enjoyment with our music and freedom of being away from home. Lake Guernsey is our favorite place on earth!

Way too busy!

My family went to Guernsey for years and years before everybody and their dog started going there since Glendo is always so packed. But now so is Guernsey! You used to have space to spread out and other campers weren't on top of you like they are now, so you better enjoy listening to everything going on in the sites next door. If you plan to do any skiing or wakeboarding you better do it by 7 and the water gets churned up. It's also awesome when people walk through your section of beach with their dogs. This place is ruined!

Couldn't Find It

We were traveling West on Highway 26, turned right on to 270, went to the town of Hartville without seeing one sign telling me where the state park would be. We did a U-turn in the middle of Hartville and went into Guernsey to ask directions. I see only 1 Highway 270 on the map and no state park. Sounded very nice and looked wonderful on your website. But signs would be very helpful! Just passing through so I'll never see this park.

Love It!

Wonderful camping experience (with Motorhome). Love the lake and area. Used to come here several times each summer in the 80's/90's. Started coming back last year. Two down sides are the partying late at night on the week-ends, and the difficulty making a reservation for the dates you want. You have to almost be on the internet at midnight 90 days before you want your reservation to be guaranteed the dates you want.

What a GREAT FAMILY EXPERIENCE! We were originally supposed to go to Glendo, but based on their reviews chose Guernsey. Beautiful lake for camping, swimming, boating, biking, and the scenery! WOW!! Be sure to take your camara. Only saw the rangers a couple of times a day go by our campsite. The campsite was very clean and gave campers enough space between them for some privacy. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning.

What A Blast!!
100 % of users found this review helpful
The trip to Guernsey State Park from the Denver Metro Area is a pleasant, relatively short drive. We pulled our 36 ft travel trailer and our brother drove his RV. As we drove towards the park, we thought that the terrain told the story - remote, dry, no trees to speak of, out in a not-so-inviting area. But, we we wrong! After stopping to get directions to our reserved campground at the ranger station, we began a trip up and down, curving back and forth, getting ever so closer to the most beautiful, tree lined, sandy beach area that is close to Denver that we had been to all year. Although we made a wrong turn, had trouble pulling our 8600 lb trailer up a steep incline, the roving ranger stopped to point us in the right direction. Our spot was in a "cul-de-sac" setting with 5 spots. We were close to the water, but we preferred to go to the sandy beach to swim. We drove ATV's over sandy backroads and hills, had a campfire, walked in the moonlit night, watched eagles fly overhead, slept in the quiet surroundings, and shopped in the quaint town of Guensey. The facilities were clean, the grounds were well kept, the people were friendly. What more could you ask for? We had a blast!!

We had a blast!

We usually go to Glendo Reservoir, but due to the flooding last year, we tried Guernsey. We loved it! 2 families had motor homes, and the services (water & dumping) were very close and convenient! Large dumpsters were close to the campsites, so clean up was easy. They were dumped frequently so there was no garbage smell. The campsites were convenient and (last year anyway!) close to the water. We loved the small beaches accessible to each campsite. Although the water was colder than we were used to, and the high water made for thick cotton, plants and sticks close to the shore, we were so thrilled with everything else, that we were able to over look it. Everyone loved jumping off the cliffs and once we knew what all the noise was, we even enjoyed the military activity close by. The first 2 nights, the trains seemed really loud but after that, we all slept right through. The rangers made rounds frequently, and were very friendly. Other campers were respectful of each other and also friendly. The trip to the store for ice and supplies was very convenient and, relatively speaking, prices were reasonable. All around a great experience!
