Wonderful Wyoming experience
50 % of users found this review helpful
To all the negative review writers, I think you just had a bad day that should be chalked up to one of those bad days that we have all experienced, which is called life.
Glendo is a great place for outdoor recreation that attracts people in large numbers. There will always be people who cause trouble. All you can do is hope you don't cross their path. I've never had a issue with any of the staff. You won't either if you obey the rules and stay somewhat sober and civilized.
If you want shade, go to Two Moon campground. You want sun, go to Sandy Beach. Other places have a bit of both. I have been to Glendo hundreds of times and have never had a bad time or a negative experience with staff or other members of the general public. I do however like to read the reviews when people say they will never go back because that means it will not be so crowded when I go back. If you don't like it at Glendo go to the very popular and crowded Big Mac in Nebraska or one of the very over crowded lakes in Colorado. I would bet money that most, if not all negative review writers are from Colorado and/or out of state. For the record, I am an out of stater(Colo.) who loves Wyoming and all the outdoor recreation the great state offers.

WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN GOING TO SANDY BEACH FOR FAMILY REUNIONS FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM UNTIL THIS YEAR. I RESERVED 5 CAMPSITES THIS YEAR AND WAS TOLD I COULD ONLY HAVE 2 TENTS ON EACH BUT YET YOUR ALLOWED 10 PER CAMPSITE MOSTLY KIDS SO THIS MAKES NO SENSE MY WHOLE FAMILY USES TENTS WE ARE NOT AVID CAMPERS AND ONLY GO ONE TIME A YEAR SO WE DO NOT HAVE BIG FANCEY CAMPERS OR TENTS NOR COULD WE PROBABLY AFFORD THEM. WE HAVE LITTLE 3-4 PERSON TENTS. BESIDES I THOUGHT CAMPING WAS TO BE SO YOU COULD ENJOY THE OUTDOORS. WHEN WE GOT THERE THE LADY IN FRONT KEPT SAYING TOO MANY PEOPLE YOU KNOW YOU CAN ONLY HAVE 2 TENTS WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE. WHOEVER MADE THIS RULE WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. THE PEOPLE DOWN A WAYS FROM US HAD PUT UP AN EXTRA TENT AND HERE CAME THE RANGERS TELLING THEM TAKE ONE DOWN ONLY 2 ALLOWED. HOW SAD THAT RULES LIKE THIS HAVE TO BE MADE. A PERSON CANNOT EVEN ENJOY HAVING THE KIDS IN THEIR OWN TENT SO THEY DON'T TRACK SAND IN YOURS BECAUSE YOUR ONLY ALLOWED 2 TENTS. MY QUESTION IS WHY? IS IT MONEY? TO WHOEVER MAKES THE RULES FOR THE PARK REMEMBER NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD BIG FANCEY CAMPERS AND TENTS AND THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE THAT LIKE TO GO ENJOY THE OUTDOORS AND SLEEP IN A TENT WITH CHILDREN THAT GET A KICK OUT OF BEING ABLE TO HAVE THEIR OWN TENT AND NOT HAVE TO SLEEP WITH THE GROWNUPS ( AND I WILL RETURN AS I ENJOY THE PARK BUT AS BEFORE I COULD TAKE NEICES AND NEWPHEWS OF FAMILY MEMBERS THAT COULD'T MAKE IT I AM NOW LIMITED AS WE CAN ONLY HAVE 2 TENTS)HOW SAD IS THAT. WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE???? :(

Love Lake Glendo
0 % of users found this review helpful
I've loved coming to Lake Glendo for 10 years or more. And I love it even more since they instituted the new rules. I've been 4 times this summer with my family and every time I've been able to go to sleep with the peaceful sound of wind in the trees and nothing else; no more loud obnoxious partiers, and no more calling law enforcement at 12am, and again at 1am and then 2am, and boating bleary eyed from lack of sleep.
Glendo is a beautiful pristine lake with red canyons, rocky sandstone shores, white soft sandy beaches, blue herons, pelicans and seagulls by the thousands, and it's big enough that everybody can have their space. The fisherman and the power boaters and the jet skiers can all respect each other and play nicely. It's my summer escape place.

glendo weekend

Though glendo is gorgeous my camping spot was awful. I had requested a spot with shade due to having young kids and recieved the opposite. Needless to say there wasnt anything done to make our stay more comfortable or i would be willing to return. Thank.goodness for the lake. Only good part of my experience there.

Glendo, WY--Who Knew?
0 % of users found this review helpful
We decided to try out Glendo Reservoir because it is within a days driving distance from home. What a treat!! We did not expect Wyoming to be so beautiful! The lake was clean, warm and inviting and, becaue the reservoir is so big, not overcrowed. We felft safe tubing, swimming and skiing with our grandkids. There is a substantial beach to pull up to and the kids enjoyed playing in the soft sand. Friendly staff and a convenience store at the marina. Pricing was less expensive compared to other marinas. There is a repair shop on site with a good mechanic and supply stock. We stayed in Two Moons campground and enjoyed the privacy the sites offered. There were no hook-ups but water and dump stations were readily available. We all had such a good time, we are planning on returning next yeaar!! Highly recommend this jewel.

Okay, but could be better
0 % of users found this review helpful
We have been going to Glendo for over 15 years and the changes they have made over the last few years to the camp sites and the rules have really made it a less enjoyable experience. I understand that they may be trying to control some undesirable conditions, but the new rules and the Park's variable interpretation of the rules makes it very confusing.
The person at the check in station was confused with the reservations we had, kept telling us we had a different camp site reserved than we had documented, finally found our information once she looked at our receipt, and was not well informed when asked questions.
Also, the Park Staff and Park Rangers seem to be very inflexible and not friendly at all. I sometimes wonder if we were from Wyoming instead of Colorado if we would not get preferential or better treatment.
The lake and area is still one of my favorites but the human aspect could be better.

Glendo needs Help
0 % of users found this review helpful
We love going to Glendo and have been every other weekend this summer. What has happened to this place lately, the bathrooms are a mess and are not cleaned on a regular basis, the trash is overflowing and who knows when they pick it up. We were ther for 6 days and the restroom was not cleaned and the trash was not picked up. We take two vehicles so we pay double for one site as do most of the people we travel with. Please start taking better care of Wyomings Parks. not sure we'll come back again after last trip.

I love this place and people

It is frustrating to see negative reviews of Glendo. What a wonderful place. The park has suffered through federal mismanagement of water resources over the last couple of years. And the Glendo rangers were helpful in explaining their challenges, and helping us find the best way to enjoy the park under difficult circumstances. I wish I had taken down some names, because I would post them here, and give them kudos. We will definitely be coming back, so next time.
There are some odd rules that I don't fully understand, but you can't take that out on the rangers who are just trying to do their jobs. And camping in the park is a bargain. So like so many things in life you get out of it what you put in to it. Cut these poor guys some slack, and give them credit for performing miracles under tough circumstances. We did.

Love this place

We had a great time, in spite of what we had to deal with. We were told when we reserved the spot each addtional vehicle would need to pay the daily rate at $17.00 per day. We have a trailer and generator and stayed at a group site on sandy beach. We were told it had to trees on the site and plenty of shade , however when we got there the trees were babies and dead to boot , only shade was from our awnings. Not a huge deal since mos of our time was spent on the lake. We did use the outouses once and that was enough - they are not well kept . the park could and should hose them down, and with as much as they charge folks to get in they can afford to do this I would think. this is my only complaint. due to a fire near by were were evacuated with the rest of the park 2 days before we were scheduled to leave, the park refunded the 2 days with no issuesand proof of my reservation.-- We will be back , this is a great place , plenty of room for lots of boaters, plenty of space and distance from other sites to run generators etc. Camping is what you make of it. do all research before you go and you wont be faced with unexpected obstacles.

not worth your money or time

somehow these people in charge of the park have managed to convert this beautiful area in a world full of rules which are all to their benefit. DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION. they will charge you extra to reserve and charge you if you cancel, even if you end up cancelling because they closed the park. I remember going to Glendo in the past and it was never so much problem for everything.
since this park is one of the only revenue sources in the whole state they have managed to convert it into a place where everything is fees.
I should of read these reviews first, and find out that a lot other people have the same problem with this sorry park.
