Tumbleweeds camp ground
0 % of users found this review helpful
My husband and I went to Tumbleweeds camp ground as we have always loved this camp ground. But when we got there most of the camp sites were torn up as if they were upgrading. Which is fantastic but when we found a site that was good for camping, we got pulled in and set camp when we go to hook up to the water, there was none.. now we have camped here earlier than May 10th and have always had water... Could some one please explain why there is nothing posted anywhere about any kind of construction work going on at this campground.. we have reservations through out the summer and if it isn't better by then then I will DEMAND a full refund of my annual permit to camp at State parks in Wyoming..

Wardens may ruin it
67 % of users found this review helpful
The mountain biking is good! The Mountain biking map is spot on! Some campsites are great...some are horrible - par for the course at any park. HOWEVER, the wardens are among the worst I've experienced anywhere in the country. We pulled into a large campsite at 4:30PM - two families with two pop-up campers. Unpacked, set up, started to enjoy ourselves and then at 7:00 PM, two wardens came by and made one us pack up and move. Seriously, here we are with one 6-month old baby, one 3-month old, and two under 3. It totally ruined everyone’s mood. - Thus, defeating the purpose of camping. At about 10pm our 20-something neighbors showed up w/ a caravan of drinkers. They seemingly had a blast into the wee hours. Are you kidding me?!? Wardens ought to consider revaluating who they harass.

We stayed there for 3 nights, with other family members in RVs (total of 2) Started out poorly. We had called ahead to make sure we could get fishing licenses there and were told we could. When we got there, the concession selling fishing licenses was closed for the season. So the person at the gate told us we would have to go all the way to Laramie to get our licenses. We happened to run into to concessionaire when he was packing up his trailer, and he told us a much closer place to go. But the gate attendant did not know this? Our spot was HUGE, and had more than enough room for both of our RV's and more. Warden came and made one of us move, some bogus rule about only one Hardsided camper being allowed. Apparently if one of us had been in a tent we could have stayed in the same spot? We did move, and saw many campers coming later, not being able to find a spot, while we could have freed up one for one of them. On the other hand, the wardens ignored the boaters on the Lake, not obeying any rules, purposely cutting so close by the shores, harassing several canooers (we feared they would actually capsize one of them). Fishing with a bobber cast out, a jet ski came so close actually freed the bobber from the fishing line, not even 10 feet from thje bank.

Beautiful Park ~ Awesome Mountain Biking!
0 % of users found this review helpful
We love Curt Gowdy State Park for a variety of reasons, but the main one is the beauty of the park. We do not fish or boat, but we are avid mountain bikers and this is the best location in this region for awesome mountain biking. We have always been treated with respect by all staff, and can only praise the good work they do to keep the park maintained and kept up. We are thrilled about the new visitor center that is being built and the showers that will be available, as well as the possibility of camping spots with electricity. Cannot wait for all the good things to come. Keep up the good work staff of Curt Gowdy State Park!!!

We arrived on Wed 8/15 and left 8/18. Our experience was great. The personnel from the check in booth to the park rangers was terrific. We were worried due to other reviews but found the staff helpful and good natured. Beautiful views. Lots of birds, chipmunk and even a Fox crossed our path. Neighboring campers caught fish from the neighboring campsite. We did not fish, no license for Wyoming. We are thrilled that we visited this park and we will return. Our check in experience was , she recommended sites based on our preference, she was spot on. The ranger we met was very friendly.

We love this place!

Beautiful campground. Many of the campsites offer shade trees and a good amount of privacy. We love the hiking/mountain bike trails. The store is a plus. My son loves to ride his bike there to get a treat. The only drawback is that swimming is not allowed here, so there is no relief from the heat if it gets too hot. The Summer Outdoor Slam they hold here each year in June is a great time to bring kids. There are TONS of free activities for the kids that weekend. They have had water activities included (such as kayaking) in S.O.S. in the past.

Beautiful, but...

Curt Gowdy State Park is set in the foothills of the beautiful Laramie Mountains. The small lake in the center of the campground surrounded by timbered slopes of spruce and aspen promoted a tranquil and relaxing evening. Sharp granite outcroppings were a feast for the eyes. Although the park was clean and the views were fantastic, the camper must be prepared for rustic living. Campsites consisted of old decaying picnic tables. The "store" was a booth set up outside with a very few picnic items and an ice maching. There was no running water or electricity, but the outhouses were clean and well stocked with toilet paper. Would I stay here again? Most definately, but not for more than a night or two at a time. Those who don't mind doing without showers would probably enjoy a much longer stay. The trails were very enticing. I would love to go back and do some hiking.

This was the 4th time campin here this summer so far.Like always,we had a great relaxing time by the water. Except for the state wide fire ban,we enjoyed our stay fishing, long walks and just doing nothing but watching nature. The staff was helpful with all our questions about the park.we plan on returning before the summer ends.
