Description

Curt Gowdy State Park has seven sections of richly varied landscape, flora and fauna decorate the foothills of the Laramie Mountains. The beautiful attractions within Curt Gowdy State Park are near the crossroads of two major interstates, I-80 and I-25. There are three reservoirs, Granite, Crystal and North Crow. Granite offers excellent rainbow trout and kokanee salmon fishing as well as space for water sports. Crystal, the smallest of the reservoirs, has shoreline fishing for brown trout, rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. Also, enjoy boating while at Crystal (15 horsepower limit). North Crow Reservoir is located 5 miles west of the Headquarter's Building. This is an unimproved fishing area. There are no picnic tables, water supply, comfort stations, and is day- use only-very natural. There are a limited number of reservable campsites at the Tumbleweed and Camp Russell campgrounds. Aspen Grove campground is next to a free public horse corral for those visitors who would like to camp with horses.

A wonderful getaway

My family has camped here for years. The lakes offer some good fishing. There is some good hiking trails in the area, our favorite is the hike to hidden falls. The staff are very helpful, and polite. We always buy the kids some ice cream from the store. Overall it is a nice place to relax.

Biking is amazing...rangers not so much
75 % of users found this review helpful
We had a phenomenal time biking and enjoying ourselves until the ranger came around and would so rudely disturb us with all of the things that look wrong on our campsite. They were not welcoming and quick to make our stay unpleasant. We will visit again, but be aware...the rules of the park seem to contradict and they are not always clear. But don't you worry...the rangers will make sure you are in the wrong and fine you for it.

Great riding, Poor staff
50 % of users found this review helpful
The mountain biking here is outstanding and our campsite was very nice, right on the water. Unfortunately the security staff were very unprofessional. They were quick to point out any minor infraction of the rules and did so in a very rude manner. If it wasn't for the staff we would rate this location very positively.

beautiful setting
88 % of users found this review helpful
We enjoy camping here every summer. The lake is beautiful along with the surrounding terrain. Wildlife is abundant. Hiking, biking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, playgrounds, and archery are available. I wish there were more shade trees in the reservable site areas. These sites appear fairly level, but really aren't. Of course, the unreservable sites are worse. The new snack shack owners are very friendly and accommodating. We needed shampoo and conditioner, which they don't sell. The owner sold us her newly bought shampoo and conditioner, right out of the shoppping bag. Way to go!! Everyone seems friendly. The gate staff this year appears to be new, so they didn't have great knowledge on how things work, but will come with experience, as with any job. We are losing some of the pines to the pine beetles. I do like the security trucks coming by periodically during the day. There are handicap facilities available (sites, restrooms, fishing docks). The restrooms and firepits are cleaned regularly. We have never had any problems with other campers. Nice place.
