i was going to make reservations for a week here to use as a home base to explore cody and yellowstone.....i am a full time rv'er....and been in state parks all over the country....what i experenced here was rediculous....while reserving a spot isaw there was an extra fee for my tow car,if i unhooked it for use..,,ok i called to find out how much...same as the rv....154. a week....for each.....how crazy is that...so to stay here and use my car to go in and out, to go to these places around the area i would have to pay another 154. a week......308 total..in no other state have i experenced this stupid setup....normaly you pay for your camping and go in and out as you want to at no extra fees.....guess ill chalk of the wy state park system....

Accommodating
50 % of users found this review helpful
When we stayed at Buffalo Bill State Park, there was a storm blowing through. The wind was so strong we could barely even put up our tent. Not to worry, though. The campground officials allowed us to move to any open campground. There were some set down behind a small hill and they had wind-breaker walls. Behind these walls, we barely even noticed the wind. The park staff took care of the facilities and grounds in a timely and efficient manner. The best asset they have is their friendliness and willingness to accommodate campers.

Perfect for us

After leaving Yellowstone, we stumbled upon this site and were totally delighted. Hook ups were convenient, layout of park is easy to maneuver, and the landscape views from all angles are breathtaking.

Relaxing but difficult to find

The park is very nice and people are friendly, but the park was very difficult to find. Just beside the lake and the falls. Very nice.

Happy Camper

Lots of room to spread your wings and great open viewing 360'. Patrolling security and camp host roams so secure feeling. Big Rig Friendly. I have 42' toyhauler so I'm 60 feet and room to drop door down while hooked up. only negative I have is I just wasted over an hour trying to reserve space at another WY park online and had another camper try, no can do. hHave no choice due to Disability not letting me call on phone

Oasis in the Heat

We stayed at North Shore Bay campground, and had a spot right off the water. Kids loved swimming after long day of travel. (We brought lifejackets for lake swimming). They didn't want to leave to go into town. Cody is just about 10 miles away, with fabulous museums to see, and a great wild west show at the center of town at about 6:00. At the end of the lake, on the way to town, is the dam, which was free, and very interesting for a quick stop. Very clean campground, mostly empty during the week, and we only stayed one night, although I was wishing we had planned to stay longer. No hookups, but very peaceful. Would be a great place to bring a boat and spend a week or weekend with friends. Not a lot of shade around, so pack the canopy!

Birthday Trip

Living in Gardiner MT. at the time, I wanted to take my girlfriend down to Cody for her Birthday. I put in reservations at the camp ground a couple of days before. We had no trouble checking in. The campground was empty except for a handful of RVs, which was no problem to us. However I wish that there had been more trees. We were in a tent and would liked to have the shade. The campgrounds were very flat and had lots of grass, very comfortable with the exception of the lack of shade. We didn't have any trouble with any critters big or small. The best part was probably that it was close to the town of Cody but not too close. We were able to drive in for the entire day and come back at night with no trouble to our tent. Definitely go to the Buffalo Bill museum (even if you are not a museum type person) and watch the shoot out over at the Irma at night. We went to the Rodeo and had a good time, we also got in at a HUGE discount because we worked in Yellowstone, so bring your picture ID. Overall it was a pretty good experience and I would definitely stay there again, unless it was going to be super hot.

awesome

We absolutely loved this park. After driving through the tunnel from Cody, we did not know what to expect. The scenery was awesome. After we set up camp on July 4th, we drove back toward Cody and parked in the parking lot next to the road to view the fireworks. My only complaint was the strong wind that day, which no one can control.

Windy, yet Nice
100 % of users found this review helpful
This campground was overall a pretty good experience. We are tent campers and upon arrival, the attendant suggested a change of site for us. We took his recommendation and were much happier. Tent sites had fences to block the wind, sites were spacious and a very friendly sheriff came around to let us know of weather conditions going into Yellowstone. The reason we chose this campground was because of it's proximity to Yellowstone. Our only complaint was the wind and that is not the park's fault.
